How to Use This Reading Time Calculator
This tool is simple. You paste your text. It tells you how long it will take to read. That's it. No sign-up. No waiting. Let me walk you through it.
Step 1 — Paste your text
Copy the article, chapter, blog post, or speech you want to time. Paste it into the big box at the top. You can also just type directly into it.
Step 2 — Watch the numbers update
The reading time updates as you type. You don't need to click any button. Word count, character count, and sentence count all change live.
Step 3 — Adjust your reading speed
Move the WPM slider to match your own speed. The average adult reads about 238 words per minute. If you read slower, slide it down. If you read faster, slide it up.
Or just tap one of the quick presets: Slow, Average, Fast, or Speed.
Step 4 — Pick the text difficulty
Not all text is equal. A news article is easier than a research paper. Pick the difficulty that matches your material. The tool will adjust the time for you.
Step 5 — Clear and start over
Hit the Clear button to wipe the box and start fresh.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is reading time calculated?
We count the words in your text and divide by your chosen words-per-minute (WPM) speed. Then we apply a small multiplier based on the difficulty you picked.
What is a good reading speed?
Most adults read between 200 and 300 words per minute. College students often read around 300 WPM. Speed readers can push past 400 WPM, but comprehension usually drops.
Is my text saved anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser. The moment you close the tab, your text is gone. Nothing is sent to any server.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The tool is fully responsive. It works on phones, tablets, and desktops.
