Am I in Perimenopause Quiz: Free Stage Finder

Am I in Perimenopause Quiz: Free Stage Finder

TL;DR: A free 10-question stage finder based on STRAW educational language. It sorts you into early, late, post, POI or unclear.

Red-flag first. Private, browser-only, printable report. Not a diagnosis.

Am I in perimenopause? That's the question I kept asking at 2AM, wide awake in my kitchen.

So I read 500+ r/Menopause posts. Same question every night. "Am I in peri? My cycles are weird."

I wanted to know where I am in this season. Early, late, post, or unclear because of an IUD. So I built the am I in perimenopause quiz.

How does the am I in perimenopause quiz work?

You answer 10 questions about your cycle, symptoms and history. The quiz sorts you into early, late, post, POI or unclear. It never gives a diagnosis.

Red flags come first. Chest pain, fainting or heavy bleeding? It tells you to call a doctor before anything else.

The logic is deterministic. Same answers, same result, every time. No black box.

POI safety is built in. If you're under 40 with absent periods, it says so clearly.

Had a hysterectomy or have a hormonal IUD? Your cycle can't tell the story. So the quiz says "unclear" instead of guessing.

Your answers stay in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent. You get a printable report for your appointment.

What is early vs late perimenopause?

Early perimenopause means your cycle length starts to vary. Late perimenopause means you skip long stretches, often 60 days or more. Both can still include periods.

Early looks like a cycle that's 7 days longer or shorter than usual. You thought it was just stress.

Late looks like two months with no period, then a surprise one. Hot flashes and night sweats often get louder here.

Sleep goes first for many of us. Tired but wired at 3AM. The 3:15am wake up every night.

Joint pain can show up too. Some women call it the rotisserie chicken sleep: one shoulder aches, the opposite hip aches, and you can't settle. Try Tool 1: 2am Hip Pain and Cold Flash Explainer if that's you.

Post-menopause starts after 12 months with no period. Before that, you're still in the transition.

3 Things Doctors Miss (And Sisters Know)

Sisters, let’s talk about the blood test trap. You might beg your doctor for an FSH test, but the Mayo Clinic notes that hormone levels fluctuate wildly day-to-day in perimenopause. A single "normal" lab result doesn't mean your symptoms aren't real. Symptom tracking beats a one-time draw every time.

If you’re 38 and hearing "you’re too young for perimenopause," you are not crazy. The transition regularly starts in the late 30s. Don't let that dismissal stop you from tracking your cycle. Your lived experience is valid, even if a clinician hasn't caught up to the science yet.

So many of us are handed antidepressants for sudden anxiety or brain fog, only to realize later it was hormonal all along. Reddit sisters know this pain. If your mood or memory suddenly shifted in your 40s, ask your doctor to connect the dots before accepting a standalone mental health diagnosis.

How to use your stage result to talk to your doctor?

Print your report and bring it to the appointment. Lead with your stage, your last period date, and your top three symptoms. It gives your doctor a clear starting point.

Say it plainly: "My quiz says late perimenopause. Can we talk about what that means for me?"

Quick answers

How do I know if I am in perimenopause?

Look for cycle changes first. Cycles that run shorter, longer or skip months are the main sign. Sleep trouble, night sweats and mood shifts often join in. Only a doctor can confirm it. The quiz gives you an educational stage, not a diagnosis.

What is the difference between early and late perimenopause?

Early means your cycle length starts to vary by about a week or more. Late means you skip long gaps, often 60 days or more. Symptoms usually get stronger in late perimenopause. Both stages are described in STRAW language.

Can you still get pregnant in perimenopause?

Yes. You can still ovulate, even with irregular periods. If pregnancy is possible and not wanted, talk to your doctor about contraception. Don't stop until they say it's safe.

Is this a medical diagnosis?

No. This stage finder is educational only. It's based on STRAW educational language and isn't a validated instrument. Answers stay in your browser and are not stored. Take your printed report to your doctor.

Can a blood test confirm if I am in perimenopause?

No. Mayo Clinic states that hormone levels fluctuate too much during perimenopause for a single blood test, like FSH, to be diagnostic. Doctors rely on your age, symptom patterns, and cycle changes rather than lab results to identify this transition stage.

Why am I being misdiagnosed with anxiety during perimenopause?

Estrogen fluctuations directly impact serotonin and GABA, causing sudden anxiety or brain fog. Many women are prescribed antidepressants before the hormonal link is considered. Track your symptoms alongside your cycle to show your doctor the pattern, and explicitly ask about perimenopause.
